About Us

The Film Journal is a Central Ohio-based, independently produced, online film publication, which seeks to contribute to the community of serious-minded film websites by being a forum for eclectic film criticism, study and discussion. The Film Journal seeks to highlight local film events, as well as feature international film writing.

Launched in March 2002, The Film Journal stresses the importance of an ongoing dialogue on both contemporary and classic cinema.

The Film Journal is published quarterly. It is indexed in the Movie Review Query Engine.

Staff Bios

Richard A. Curnutte, Jr.
Editor / Critic

Rick has studied English and Film at The Ohio University and Ohio State University. He has written for Countingdown.com and Cinemayhem.com, as well as maintaining the previous incarnation of this website, MediaJunky.com, which was a well-intended but misguided attempt to be all things to all people. He is a featured critic at RottenTomatoes.com, and he is also a member of the Nominating Committee of the Bubaker Awards, as well as a founding member of the Central Ohio Film Critics Association (COFCA).
