Here we are with Issue 2 already. It's been a busy time for
The Film Journal. Reception for Issue 1 was tremendous,
and there has been a great deal of excitement for this issue's
focus on Korean cinema. The segment is actually part of a new
ongoing feature, the Asian Focus Series, which will highlight
a different aspect of Asian cinema in each issue. This new feature,
which we at The Film Journal think will be both entertaining
and enlightening, is made possible through a new partnership
with HKFlix.com, who will
providing screener copies of many of the films you will be reading
about. Please help this endeavor out by visiting their website
and purchasing some of the great films they are making available.
I'd also like to especially thank Darcy Paquet of the Korean
Film Page for his submission, of course, but most of all
for being the absolute best source of information on Korean
Cinema in the whole wide world. Without him, my life would have
been so much more difficult these past couple of weeks.
I think you will find Issue 2 very interesting. We have some
great articles on Korean cinema, an interview with Bob Sabiston,
the lead animator and art director of Richard Linklater's groundbreaking
animated feature, Waking Life, a re-examination of the
politics behind Elia Kazan's On the Waterfront. We've
also got a poll of the greatest films of all time and
a greater variety of reviews, which have been expanded to home
video in this issue, and will probably expand further to books
in Issue 3.
In the meantime, peruse this current issue and check back frequently
for news of what's coming up in Issue 3.
Thanks for reading and, as always, feel free to send us your
comments and/or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Curnutte, Jr.
